25 nature reserves in Istanbul with an area of 5,000 hectares
The area covered by 25 nature reserves in the Turkish city of Istanbul has increased to about 5,000 hectares, thanks to the efforts made by the concerned authorities since 2011.

According to information compiled by the Anatolia correspondent from the Ministry of Forests and Water and the General Directorate for the Protection of Nature and Parks, 25 nature reserves offer nature enthusiasts opportunities for cycling, picnicking, photography, swimming and snorkeling.

Surrounded by the beauty of Istanbul's unique four seasons, the nature reserve draws attention to its wild life, which captures the hearts at first sight.

In the Asian part of Istanbul, there are nine nature reserves out of a total of 25, while in the European side, 16 are the largest, the Polonizkoy Reserve (3,000 hectares), followed by the 335 hectares of Shamler Reserve.

The Polonizkoy Reserve includes two horticulture and deer centers, where animals such as red deer, wild boar, jackal, squirrel, mongoose, falcons and other animals and birds live.
