Professor of physics Melachat Bilge Demirkez, who is engaged in scientific work at the Middle East Technical University, received an award for women-young talents from UNESCO. A female scientist works and teaches at the Department of Physics. She is studying cosmic radiation. According to Professor Demirkez, the study of cosmic particles and radiation should help in explaining the secrets of our universe. For example, the current work of scientists is designed to develop a methodology for calculating the amount of radiation impact on Earth satellites.

The award ceremony took place on April 23 this year in the French capital. Annually, the prize is awarded to 15 young women scientists under the For Women in Science project. It exists thanks to the interaction between UNESCO and L'OREAL.
