According to a report by the Institute for Health Strategies and Social Policy in Turkey (SASOMER), foreign visitors to the country for health tourism spend about 10 times more than those coming for holiday.

"Turkey is trying to take advantage of its health tourism potential," said Turkey's President Turan Buzgan, adding that about 1.1 million people are visiting the country for this purpose.

The health tourism sector consists of three sub-groups: medical tourism, tourism for the elderly, people with special needs and thermal tourism.

According to information released by the head of SASOMER, Turkey generates between $ 2.3 billion and $ 3 billion in health tourism annually and is expected to rise to $ 5 billion by 2020.

Buzgan said that the per capita expenditure of foreign tourists coming to Turkey for health care was almost 10 times higher than the average spent by visitors visiting the country for holidays.

One of the treatment services provided by Turkey is the treatment of eye diseases, neurosurgery, orthopedics, oncology and plastic surgery, such as hair transplantation, which is popular among Arab tourists.
