World Earth Day
The International Mother Earth Day is commemorated to remind each of us that the Earth and its ecosystems provide us with life and sustenance.
It also recognized the collective responsibility, as called for in the 1992 Rio Declaration, to promote harmony with nature and the earth in order to achieve a fair balance between the economic, social and environmental needs of present and future generations of humankind.
The International Day of Our Mother Earth offers an opportunity to raise public awareness around the world of the challenges to the well-being of the planet and all the life it supports.
Topic 2017 is "environment and climate literacy".
Education is the foundation of progress. We need to build a global citizen who is fluent in climate change concepts and aware of his unprecedented threat to our planet. We need to empower everyone with knowledge to inspire action in defense of the environment.
Environmental and climate literacy is the engine not only to create green voters and promote environmental and climate laws and policies but also to accelerate green technologies and jobs
