Turkey: Domestic tourism surges 16.1% in the third quarter of last year

Domestic tourism recorded a significant increase during the third quarter of 2017, according to a statement issued by the Turkish Institute of Statistics today.

According to the figures, some 25 million Turkish residents have achieved more than 33 million domestic flights, with domestic spending rising to 16.1, recording 17.8 billion lire (about $ 5.1 billion) between July and September.
The number of domestic flights, one night or more, increased by 0.1 percent in the third quarter, compared to the same period in 2016.

Relatives and parents are the first to travel, with 62.6 per cent, followed by travel, leisure or holiday, at 31.3 per cent. Then travel for treatment comes 3.4 percent.

According to the statistics, the largest proportion of visitors during the quarter have lived with their friends or family. Average per-trip spending jumped by 15.88 percent to 540 TL compared to the same period last year.

During the first nine months of 2017, 49.1 million Turkish residents made 63.4 million domestic trips and spent 29.8 billion lire (about $ 8.3 billion).
